About
What is The Family International?
The Family International is an international fellowship of independent Christian missionary communities. Although our membership is comprised of over 80 nationalities, we are united in a firm belief that God's love is the solution to the problems that currently plague mankind. Since our beginning in 1968, we have grown from a group of less then 50 teenagers in California to our current full-time membership of about 3000 adults and their 6000 children, as well as over 20,000 associate members. We live in over 1000 Family communities in over 74 countries on six continents. In only 32 years, Family International members have been in 175 of the world's approximately 200 nations and principalities, where we have personally spoken with over 225 million people about the Gospel - or an average of over 20,000 a day. Of those, 27 million have prayed with us to accept God's love, through Jesus, into their lives.
The Family International has three broad objectives:
- First and foremost is to share with others the life-giving message of love, hope and salvation found in God's Word, the Holy Bible. We strive at every opportunity to fulfill Christ's commission to His disciples to "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). Toward this end, The Family International produces and distributes a wide selection of inspirational publications and audio and video tapes which are distributed by the millions worldwide. We organize Bible classes and seminars, as well as teach the Bible on an individual level to interested people.
- Secondly, we try to be a living example of the love that we preach, endeavoring to follow the model of Jesus, who said His ministry was to "preach the Gospel to the poorâ?¦to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord"(Luke 4:18-19). Members perform regularly at musical benefits, serve as volunteers in disaster relief projects, and seek ways to provide comfort and material assistance to the disadvantaged.
- Our third objective is to ensure that each of our children receives a Godly upbringing in the best possible environment we can provide. Many of our members have chosen home-based education for their children.
What does The Family International do?
"The heart of man is the same the world over! His longings and loves, his hunger for God and the Truth, his desire for joy and happiness and peace of mind are all God-created and the same in men the world over! Love is the greatest need of man, so love is the greatest service to man." -David Brandt Berg, founder of The Family (1919-1994).
The goal of The Family International is to serve God by rendering loving service to our fellow man. In every situation we try to offer assistance that goes beyond material aid, as we believe this is of far greater and more lasting value. Our sharing of faith, hope and the love of God with others results in countless lives being touched and transformed. Public commendation for our efforts has been extended by many individuals and organizations, including the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), governmental social welfare agencies in many countries, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and many others.
